TROJBORG CENTRE CLOSES DOWN FOR REHABILITATION

The Trøjborg Local Activity Centre at Danfa has been temporarily closed down in view of serious structural defects that have developed and need immediately rehabilitation to avoid accident and injury to the aged persons who patronize the centre for their daily social activities. The rehabilitation has been on the drawing board since the middle of 2008 for lack of funds. Estimated to cost Ghc 40,000 (app. Dkk 200,000), the rehabilitation would see replacement of leaking roofs, filling of cracked walls, guttering, and re-flooring. There are indications that the centre would remain closed for a long time as it is clear that AA-LF does not have the funds to undertake the rehabilitation immediately.

AA-LF would like to apologise to the aged community whose daily activities are organised at the centre.

         Income generation project.

After interaction with the aged persons on the project, it has been established that intensive farming is a sure way of keeping the aged active. Farming will also yield some income that will enable them pay for some medication and basic needs. This is precisely because they have been involved in farming for a greater part of their lives. Knud Erik from "Grenå Produktionsskolen" is working on overhauling tractors that have been purchased by AA-LF to take off the hard part of farming like ploughing, tilling and harrowing from the aged. The tractors are due to arrive in Ghana by the middle of March 2010.

Our future plans in this area include the completion of construction of the Social & health-care college to train our helper volunteers, and to renovate the Trøjborg Centre.  Before this can begin, we need to establish a major source of income to subsidize staff salaries and running costs.

Although poverty is evident everywhere, our research shows that the local economy will thrive under sustained and increased amount of agricultural mechanization to help with the heavy jobs on the farm as well as providing water for irrigation. AA-LF is therefore importing two used ford 4000 tractors and associated agricultural equipment to set up an agricultural contracting business.

The income generated from this equipment will allow for a more rapid development of our elderly social centre and quickly impacting the lives of an increased number of elderly people and the community at large.

Please Contact us if you have any contacts that may be useful in sourcing  this   equipment, or companies that may wish to sponsor individual pieces of equipment.
